Spring 2010

Condoms & Candy!!

Cardozo LSRJ, Advocates for Battered Women, Students for Human Rights, and OUTLaw celebrated National Condom Week at a special fundraising event. Students joined us on February 15th in Room 205 for pizza and to help put together V-Day cards and packages. On Tuesday-Thursday, Feb 16-18, we gave away condoms, candy, and cards in the 3rd floor lounge at suggested donations of $1-$3.

Cardozo students learned how to have a safe, healthy, and activist Valentine’s Day with information on sexual assault and comprehensive sex education advocacy. We raised awareness and enough funds to donate $93 each to LSRJ, SAFER: Students Active For Ending Rape, and V-DAY: A Global Movement to End Violence Against Women and Girls. Email Lauren.Tetenbaum@gmail.com with questions.

Special thanks to Advocates for Youth for the condoms!

Panelists include:

– Alison Mehlman, Director of Planning and Policy Research at the Center for HIV Law and Policy
– Adam Gurvitch, Director of Health Advocacy for the NY Immigration Coalition
– Christina Voight, Open Society Institute
– Pooja Gehi, Staff Attorney for Sylvia Rivera Law Project
