Maternal Health and Human Rights: The US and Beyond

March 8 is International Women’s Day. Celebrate with Cardozo Students for Human Rights, Law Students for Reproductive Justice, and the International Law Society — Tuesday, March 9, 5pm – 7pm, Room 204.

Over 500,000 women die every year from complications of pregnancy and childbirth. These tragic and preventable deaths are the culmination of human rights violations against women and girls in many aspects of their lives and at all levels of health decision-making. Speakers include Lynn Freedman from Columbia University’s Averting Maternal Death & Disability Program and Alejandra Cardenas from the Center for Reproductive Rights’ International Program.

Food and wine will be served!

About our Chapter

Description

Reproductive justice will be achieved when all people and communities have access to the information, resources, and support they need to attain sexual and reproductive self-determination. Today, a growing number of law schools offer comprehensive courses in reproductive rights law, but opportunities for professional training remain scarce. As individuals, each of us faces difficulties obtaining the education and training we need to become strong, successful advocates for reproductive justice. Together we can change this situation and become a powerful, educated fore that defends and expands reproductive rights in the United States and around the world.

Cardozo Law Students for Reproductive Justice educates, organizes, and supports Cardozo law students to ensure that a new generation of advocates will be prepared to protect and expand reproductive rights as basic civil and human rights. This Chapter was founded in 2008 by Sara Perle (’09) and Dante Costa (’11).
