NARAL has attempted to draw attention to Dr. Tiller’s courageous life by honoring him with a wristband that says, simply, “Trust Women”. This is the slogan that was on a button he regularly wore. I have since discovered that it was also the slogan on a button worn by Sarah Weddington (one of the two lawyers who argued Roe v. Wade before the Supreme Court).
This slogan has gotten me thinking about marketing. Reproductive justice is an expansive topic and it’s not readily familiar to most people. It needs a marketing strategy! I think “Trust Women” encompasses most RJ issues (although, admittedly, not all) and I feel like it has significant power in its simplicity and history. (As a bonus, I think it would be a great slogan to print on a t-shirt or a tote along with the LSRJ logo to sell as a fundraiser for my chapter next year!)
I am fearful, however, that other people will not understand it. I asked friends who were not so knowledgeable of the reproductive justice movement and they had varying responses. None were necessarily bad, but it failed to be quite as clever as I expected it to be.
Do any of you have suggestions for a new slogan for the reproductive justice movement?
